About the Program

The 7th annual Alabama Autism Conference is specifically designed to transfer the very latest research regarding etiology, diagnosis, and treautism brochureatment of individuals with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, and related Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Conference will be beneficial to both professionals engaged in direct service provision and professionals engaged in research with individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorders. This year’s conference focuses on the associated disorders that often co-occur with Autism Spectrum Disorders and interfere with everyday life.

Leave this conference with the latest research and intervention strategies for the other diagnoses that often co-occur with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Participants will learn about the social skills difficulties, communication difficulties, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, motor difficulties, and aggressive outbursts that are often experienced by individuals with ASD. The causes and treatment of these associated conditions will be discussed.

Conference Goals
• Identify the different diagnoses that co-occur with ASD and learn how to treat these disorders.
• Identify the difficulties that students with ASD experience in understanding social interactions and provide appropriate interventions.
• Recognize and intervene in situations where communication breakdowns can affect students’ understanding, behavior, and participation in the classroom.
• Describe and implement intervention strategies to treat anxiety symptoms in children with high functioning ASD.
• Describe and implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions for individuals with ASD.
• Learn practical solutions to prevent and treat tantrums in persons with ASD across the lifespan.
